Pillar 1 – Enhance Student Leader Recognition

Student leaders, especially SOPHs and ISOs, significantly shape the welcoming spirit of our campus during Orientation and International Week, investing considerable volunteer hours. To honor their dedication, I’ll launch a Student Leader Appreciation Initiative offering SOPHs and ISOs a year-long 10% discount at the Beaver Dam. This initiative recognizes their efforts, increases their visibility beyond orientation events, and promotes ongoing mentorship, engagement, and accessible support, enabling students to easily connect with these leaders throughout the academic year.

Pillar 2 – Strengthen Western University's Presence at Huron

Although Huron is affiliated with Western University, Western’s resources often aren’t visible or accessible enough for Huron students. To bridge this gap, I’ll enhance Western’s presence on our campus by including dedicated Western spaces at Orientation Week events like the Resource Fair, and offering booth opportunities outside the Beaver Dam during key events. This ensures Huron students, who equally contribute university fees, have equitable and direct access to the valuable resources, opportunities, and experiences available through Western University.

Pillar 3 – Enhance Transparency and Accessibility in Wellness

Transparent communication within campus wellness initiatives is vital for student well-being. I’ll foster stronger collaboration between the Wellness House and HUCSC Wellness Portfolio, ensuring open dialogue. My plan involves HUCSC in hiring Wellness Peer Educators to select approachable, empathetic candidates familiar with campus culture. Additionally, senior students trained by Anova will lead Gender-Based Sexual Violence (GBSV) sessions, promoting comfortable peer-led training. Wellness booths and pop-ups in residences and academic buildings will also make wellness resources more visible and accessible campus-wide.

Pillar 4 – Accurate Representation of Career and Internship Opportunities

Transparency between university departments and students is essential to build trust and maximize available resources. Students have expressed frustration, particularly regarding Career Development’s misrepresented internship opportunities, which impacted their decisions to choose Huron. To address this, I’ll ensure clear, accurate communication about genuine internship offerings, realistic expectations, and available resources. This transparency will bridge gaps between student expectations and reality, enabling confident academic and professional planning, and ensuring educational investments lead to meaningful and achievable outcomes.
